Fathom Welcomes Vanderbilt Grad Lily Liu for Workforce Data Project

Fathom is excited to announce the hiring of Keqing (Lily) Liu, a talented graduate student of Vanderbilt University's Data Science Institute. Liu joins Fathom as a research assistant, a strategic move aligning with the company's shift towards digital career management solutions for students, workers, and job seekers.

Lily will play a crucial role in Fathom's collaborative project with the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) under the Analytics for Equity Initiative. This project responds to the critical workforce development challenges facing our nation, particularly in technical science industries, including occupational safety and health.

Project Details and Goals:

• Focus: The project will conduct an exploratory analysis using the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Information Network (O*NET) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics Current Population Survey (CPS).
• Objectives: The key objectives include identifying cross-industry skill requirements, assessing the availability of workers with baseline transferable skills, and emphasizing the importance of skills-based learning and hiring practices.
• Exploratory Data Analysis: The project entails a detailed exploratory analysis of the O*NET and CPS datasets. This analysis aims to understand the availability of the workforce with transferable skills and to formulate equity-based training and employment strategies for technical science occupations.
• Data-Driven Insights: Leveraging Lily's data science expertise, Fathom plans to compute experience similarity measures and skills distances among various technical science occupations. This effort is expected to yield insightful data that can significantly contribute to effective workforce development strategies.
